This seems really obvious now when I write it down, but until I actually thought about it, my perspective was actually unconsciously flipping, depending on which chapter I was reading. From one perspective I accepted that the intruders had seen a genuine premonition of end times, and from the other it was all an awful fantasty.
It actually depended on whose perspective I was considering - the believer of the couple (Eric I think) or the non-believer (sorry, I've forgotten the name).
