Kaikeyi has never been someone who was sidelined.

If the only way you can make people sympathise with your main character is by altering or completely reversing the character of every figure from the original tale, I question your understanding of it in the first place. This isn’t a redeeming story for a woman wrongly vilified in mythology, this is a mockery of an entire religion and people’s faith, and I wish I’d never read this. Years later, it is with these two boons that she changes the fate of Lord Rama, forcing the King to send his eldest son on exile so that her son, Prince Bharatha can be crowned as the King of Ayodhya.I don’t know why Patel even took up this project of retelling the story of the gods she clearly doesn’t hold to a very high standard. King Dasharatha agrees to this and promises her that these two boons will be fulfilled anytime in future. Kaikeyi assures the King that she is very happy with all that she has and will ask for these two boons when she is in real need of something. Impressed by this love and care of Kaikeyi, the King offers her two boons that she may ask. She takes care of the King, not leaving him alone even for a moment until he fully recovers. With all her strength, she brings back Dasharatha away from the battlefield and nurses his wound. Kaikeyi immediately comes to the rescue of her husband and fixes the wheel. When Dasharatha was fighting against one of the strongest demons, Sambarasura, the wheel of his chariot breaks and the Asura seizes this moment to aim an arrow at his opponent, which directly hits the King’s chest. Kaikeyi persuades the king to take her with him and he agrees as he knew that it would only increase his mental and physical support. Indra requests king Dasharatha to help them in this battle and with no second thought, the king gets ready to leave for the war field along with his army. Long before Lord Rama and his brothers were born, there was a fierce battle between the Gods and the demons. Kaikeyi, daughter of Ashwapathi, King of the Kekaya Kingdom, was a very strong woman and would often accompany her husband, King Dasharatha during his wars as she was his most beloved queen and he would do anything for her.

I remember asking the same question to my grandfather when I was a kid and here is the story that he narrated me 🙂 But not all of us know the very story of how she owned those two boons from the King. Making use of her two boons, demands that her son, Bharatha should be crowned and Lord Rama should be sent to the forest for 14 long years. We all know that when King Dasharatha wanted to crown Lord Rama, Kaikeyi, the king’s youngest and favourite queen opposes it.
